Is your garbage disposal slightly offensive smelling? Is it worse than your teenager’s gym locker? When you have a gathering or party at your home, it never fails that people always to migrate towards the food which usually resides in your kitchen. It’s your job to make sure your kitchen not only looks pretty, but also doesn’t offend the internal nares of everyone who comes to visit.
The fastest way to remove odors temporarily is to flush boiling water down all sink drains. If you add a little bit of white vinegar, the effect may last a little longer. However, sometimes it’s not the drain that is killing everyone’s appetite. It’s your garbage disposal. Luckily, we have some intervention tips for you.
1. Let Your Garbage Disposal Know You Love It
You and any guests you invite over will dump anything and everything down your disposal, whether it should go down or not. Give it a little bit of help in dealing with the various ages and types of food it’s going to eat. To help reduce ensuing odors, cut up a whole citrus fruit (lemons work the best in our opinion) and let your disposal chomp it right down. Throw a handful of ice cubes down to give an easy and quick sharpen of its blades.
2. Making Non-Toxic Drain-O
To unclog a sink drain for super cheap, put ½ cup of baking soda followed by ½ cup of white vinegar down the slow or clogged drain. Cover the drain with a warm wet cloth and let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, then let hot water run down the drain and watch it not hesitate. This method is safe to run down a drain as many times as are necessary. This also helps offensive odors move out of your kitchen.
3. Sniff out the Un-pleasantries
If you have scrubbed your kitchen top to bottom and it still smells a little off, brew a small pot of coffee but don’t drink it. Just leave it on the warmer. The aroma should finish covering up that last little bit of stink. You can also throw some cookies in the oven but if you aren’t paying attention this one can backfire and make the smell worse.
